Fajr Int’l Theater Festival bestows awards to top plays

The 36th Fajr International Theater Festival in Iran bestows awards to top plays in the Dramatic Literature category.

The 36th Fajr International Theater Festival in Iran has bestowed awards to top plays in the Dramatic Literature category.

A ceremony in prelude to February’s Fajr International Film Festival was held at Nazerzadeh Kermani Hall in the capital city of Tehran on Saturday.

Theatrical presentations receiving awards in the Professional Theater Section include ‘Tiola’ by Ali Abedi, ‘Australia’ by Payam Larian and ‘Azi Dahak’s Big Smile in the Long Night’ by Mohammad Monem.

Judges of the section were Mohammad Charmshir, Amir Yarahmadi and Jalal Tehrani.

A trio of awards was also given to films in the Productions Section, including ‘Cake… Chance’ co-authored by Maryam Elhamian and Niaz Ebrahimpur, ‘The Power of Demanding’ by Morteza Shahkaram, and ‘Quadrilogy’ by Parisa Kiumarsi.

“Theater provides the chance for us to distance ourselves from social life to examine it,” reminded Farahad Mohanddespur, the secretary of the festival.

He continued, “Playwrights involve themselves in all real phenomena… They begin their works in solitude and need their marvelous motivations; their motives differ from those the directors and actors have.”

This week’s awards event was a prelude to the 36th Fajr International Theater Festival, which will be held in Tehran from February 18-29.
